This is going to have to suffice as the Christmas-wrap-up, the new year’s projection, and a report on the bubbling twenty(!) month old that keeps pushing her curly head under my arm.
I took vacation the week of Christmas – like, vacation vacation. I worked a little each day, usually before anyone in the house woke up, but it was wonderful to have time to prepare for Christmas. Let’s face it, the days leading up the holiday are not “vacation;” there’s last-minute presents to procure, things to wrap, decorate, and bake. There’s just stuff to do… But the days after Christmas? It was rainy and we were all a little under the weather, and we just cocooned.
Christmas felt less stressful than in years past. I wish I could chalk it up to being done in October, but that wasn’t it. Having the time to just bake – instead of bake while multi-tasking – made a huge difference. Having the time to clean, instead of cleaning at 2am, made a huge difference. Being third-trimester pregnant and having to sit down frequently helped. We didn’t go over budget, but I did eat waaaaay too many cookies. I gained six pounds in the month of December, at least two pounds of it was chocolate chip cookies.
I also think that practice helps. This was my second time hosting Christmas and it all felt a little easier this time.
